I called for a quote to replace my alternator. A disinterested sounding man answered "Probably around $600, off the top of my head."... I then asked if he could check (everyone else quoted me for real), as I wanted more than an "off the top of my head" estimate. I also added "What if I had the part already?". Before I could finish my sentence he said "Than I wouldn't be interested" & hung up.
Surprisingly the dealer in West Springfield MA was the cheapest $152 labor only). They gave me a quote (in writing) & sent a confirmation email when I made the appointment. They said that it wouldn't be a problem to use my own alternator, I would just have to refer to the warranty from NAPA Premium (where I bought it for $179) it if it ever fails.
To top it off, Lexus is giving me a free loaner car for the day of my appointment. I had initially written off calling the dealer for a quote, but was curious. Yeah, if I had bought the new toyota part from the dealer, it would have been $54 more than P and P Auto's "Off the top of my head"/Hang up in my face quoted price.
First, I have experienced 100% honesty and clarity in communication. My car has had multiple, chronic issues, and they have always helped with communicating the technicalities clearly, and given excellent suggestions while honoring my budget.
Oh by the way, Hoffman's customer service didn't hang up the phone on me when I asked if they allowed me to bring the alternator that I had already bought.
Very professional & knowledgeable. Well worth your time and hard earned $$$$. Your best choice to have any car repaired.
Be warned though, you typically need to book at least a week in advance. They are quite busy. And they are closed Saturday and Sunday.
Anyway, this guy needs to go back to tech school & learn a bit about business. You never hang up a phone on a potential customer. If you don't meet eye to eye on the deal, say that you would appreciate their business if they change their mind. I find it hilarious how this got handled as I didn't even have a chance to finish my sentence. I was friendly & simply asking a question. I can't imagine what my experience would be if I had actually gone with P & P Auto. Also note that the West Springfield Dealership was quite a bit cheaper than Hoffman in East Hartford. I have no idea why, & Hoffman couldn't tell me either when I asked.
If he hadn't cut me off I was going to add that I understand not every place allows this, but he didn't even give me a chance to respond. I got 3 quotes for my Lexus.
I have been coming here for service and repair for about two years now, and I highly recommend P & P Auto.
Second, they truly treat your vehicle with respect. I have tried pep boys, and some authorized ford service centers, no one ever cleaned up under the hood. When I got my car back from them, the car looked cared for.
If you want the job done right the first time go here! They specialize in foreign cars but can work on anything. They are exceptionally honest and posses a very good work ethic. I have been going here well over 20 years and havr never had an issue with anything they have done to my car.
Last of all, the service shop has a simple, welcoming atmosphere.
Great Service great prices genuine people
